9 Children’s Photographers In Virginia

In this post, I’ll share a few of the most popular children's photographers in Virginia, along with their specialties.

1. Unbridled Visions

Unbridled Visions is my photography business, and it’s a little unique from traditional children’s photography. 

I have 10 mini horses, and all shoots are held here at our farm. 

I transformed a section of the barn into an indoor studio, where I shoot fantasy themed photos. 

However, the farm is 40 acres, so we have plenty of outdoor shooting locations as well.

Unlike a traditional photoshoot, Unbridled Visions is an experience for your kids. I find that many of the best photos happen when the kids are having fun interacting with the mini horses. So in addition to shooting photos, they’ll also have the opportunity to meet and greet with some of the horses on the farm.

You’re welcome to bring your own outfits, though we also have several princess-themed dresses for the young ladies. 

We typically don’t do newborns as you will be on a farm with horses, though we’d love to have you when your little one reaches 2 years! The farm/studio is located just south of Charlottesville.

2. Amy Yang

Amy Yang is a well respected newborn and family photographer in Charlottesville. 

She has an eye for crafting the perfect moment and offers a variety of packages for newborns and family portraits. 

One of the benefits of working with Amy is that she already has the props you need to get your dream photos. 

For example, she has a variety of backdrops, newborn wraps, dresses, and other props for your photoshoot. 

Her newborn packages include wrapped only (with 3-5 wraps), baby only (with wrapped and traditional poses and multiple sets and props), and family posing. 

In addition to her newborn packages, she also offers maternity shoots, family sessions, senior portraits, and even pet sessions.

She delivers a truly luxury experience and her prices are designed for families who are serious about investing in creating memories.

3. Amy Nicole Photography

Another excellent family photographer in Charlottesville is Amy Nicole. 

With 15 years of experience, she’s an expert at capturing organic moments of you and your kids. 

She’s available to do shoots at public outdoor locations, like parks, orchards, and other scenic locations, or she’s happy to come directly to your home. 

The signature session is a custom experience of you and your family, though she also offers extended family sessions that include group photos as well as individual photos.

For newborn photography, she offers a “Baby’s First Year” session that includes maternity, newborn, six months, and 1 year photos which are then compiled into an Heirloom Book.

4. Heidi Fam

If you’re located in northern Virginia, Heidi Fam is another excellent children's photographer.

She personally edits each photograph and takes and focuses on capturing moments of connection. 

Her specialties include families, maternity, couples, and seniors. She also offers mini sessions.

A typical package includes a one hour session, 25-35 images, access to a private online gallery, digital downloads and a print release. 

She typically shoots at public outdoor locations and provides a location and style guide to help you come prepared to the shoot.

5. Norma Fayak

Norma Fayak is an accomplished children’s photographer in Washington DC.

She offers maternity, newborn, family, and lifestyle photography.

Norma also has several special offerings, like fresh 48. Fresh 48 is a service where she’ll come to your home or the hospital and take photos of your newborn within the first 48 hours of birth so that you capture all of those important first moments. 

Another unique offering is her maternity fine art. These sessions are done in her storefront studio and she’ll style you with a variety of handmade gowns. She also has a collection of props to finish the look.

While she does offer lifestyle and other photography options, her specialty is newborn and child photography.

One of the benefits of shooting with Norma is that she has her own studio. While you can request to do a photoshoot outside, the studio gives you more options with lighting, backdrops, etc.

6. Krystal of Sweet Pea Studios

Another excellent children’s photographer for Northern Virginia residents is Krystal of Sweet Pea Studios. 

Krystal offers maternity, newborn, family, and milestone shoots. 

If you’re looking for a personable, friendly photographer, Krystal is great. Sessions last from 30 minutes to two hours, and she understands that with kids, you sometimes must adapt!

While Krystal doesn’t have a studio, she is happy to shoot at your home or a local lake or park. 

The cost of each session includes your hand edited images. Krystal’s packages are moderately priced, ranging from $500 to $1250.

7. Katie Wilson

Katie is located in Richmond Virginia and is a versatile photographer.

In addition to traditional full sessions, she also offers mini sessions, which are perfect for families that aren’t in a position to invest in a full session. Mini sessions can also be excellent for children who don’t quite have the patience for a full length session.

Katie does outdoor sessions at surrounding locations, though she also has her own indoor studio that’s complete with all of the props you’ll need, including a bed, a crib, and other furniture!

However, if you do want to do your session outdoors, she’s a native to Richmond and knows all of the best spots. 

Katie recommends booking your session two months in advance for outdoor sessions and one month in advance for indoor sessions.

You’ll receive your proofs within two days of the photoshoot and your final hand edited photos within one week.

8. Liz Cook

Liz is a popular children’s photographer located in Lynchburg Virginia, and she specializes in maternity, newborn, and family photography.

She operates out of a studio and delivers a luxury experience. To ensure your photos come out exactly the way you want, she does a 20 minute styling appointment with clients two weeks before the photoshoot to select props and gowns/outfits.

You’ll have full access to her wardrobe during the photoshoot so that you don’t have to buy your own outfits. And her outfits are top quality, with pieces from Anthropologie, Free People, Rachel Pally, and Baltic Born.

Following the session, you’ll have access to a private online gallery where your edited photos will be available for download.

She also offers custom heirloom artwork that you can display in your home.

9. Rebecca Danzenbaker

Becky is another family and newborn photographer with a home studio in Ashburn, Virginia.

Her newborn photography sessions are held at the studio and last about three hours. Becky has hundreds of props and is an expert at posing newborns to capture the perfect image. You can expect about 10 poses during your session.

For babies one to ten months old, she offers two hour sessions both inside the studio or outdoors as surrounding locations. Becky will provide props for each stage of development, including sleepers, sitters, crawlers, cruisers, and walkers.

You’ll even get a cake smash picture at the end of each session.

Family shoots usually take place outdoors at Willowsford and last about 90 minutes long. You’ll receive about 40 digital images and can print them at the photo lab of your choice.
